The King Is Dead. Long Live.. The Queen?

There was a new message.

As I predicted.. the possibility of the scam continuing – is now fully materialised. The imprisoned forum members will now have the Queen, the revolutionary colleague who will pick up and carry the torch into posterity, in the name of …. Jed?. Hang on a minute! He was not Jed!! What about the real guy, Peter!?? I nearly feel sorry for him now.

I wonder if ‘Zara’ knows what she is doing and how much she actually knows about ‘Jed’, but she (he?) is already talking about ‘continuing the work’. Meaning.. the sweet sound of coin and the ego boost. At least Ken lacked this terrible pride gene.

I wonder how the members are going to explain to themselves the continuing flood of Wisefool Press Peter’s dailies. I suspect that Peter would have to put up with the fact that the fame of his impersonator has grown much bigger than his own. After all, people came to visit and gave Kenneth thousands for the promise of the divine touch.

And here lies the secret: a personal touch. Kenneth coverted and romanced and cajoiled his students. He made it all personable and accessible. They went for it at full speed, because may I remind you what Kenneth once said.. ‘Attention of another human is the only real currency everyone is craving” And he was absolutely correct. Yes, people will get rich, but to get attention of other humans. Yes, they will become world class athletes, but to get the attention of other humans. Yes, they will even do some kind deeds.. but to get the attention of other humans. And our Ken gave his attention in spades, to those of course who did not question him.

Peter, you will lose in the affection stakes, in the same way others lose to charismatic, but totally ruthless people. We are talking about the enslaved minds and hearts here, right? Who like strong personalities and leech on to those? And that will eventually be your loss in coin. Take this into consideration.

And I ask again.. “Ken, what have you done? What have you created, you old fool?”

Do not be surprised if in around one hundred years we have a new thriving cult that will compete with the existing religions. Fuck. But I will be well gone by then, so.. it will become the problem of your grandchildren.

Here is the full text, just in case it disappears (as it tends on the IG). Pay attention to the last paragraph, it says it all. As for me.. I am going to observe this human zoo, but at a distance. It is so.. simultaneously amusing, sad and incredulous.

Yesterday’s message was not sent by Jed, and this one isn’t either.

Jed asked me to post these messages on his behalf. He is no longer here to do it himself.

As you probably know from Jed’s recent messages, he believed he had COVID-19 a couple weeks ago. Then he believed it was just a cold. Then whatever it actually was morphed into pneumonia.

Breathing became increasingly difficult. He spent several days in a hospital, where his condition seemed to be stabilizing. They confirmed that he did not, in fact, have COVID. The pneumonia was not related to the medications he took when he thought he did have COVID. The cause was unclear.

After some days, his breathing became more compromised until he lost the ability to breathe altogether. Interventions did not help. Eventually, he lost the ability, or the will, or both, to animate the body he had apparently been occupying.

Jed was 74 and in great health. He almost never got sick. He practiced qi gong every day, yoga frequently, and rode his bicycle everywhere. He certainly did not seem to be seeking death.

Jed was not, however, averse to dying. On the contrary, he spoke of it often, with great enthusiasm, over the last few years. At times he seemed almost eager to try it out, so to speak. In a recent piece, he wrote:

“Death is a beautiful secret hidden by a lie.
The best place to hide that secret is under the fear and illusion that it is painful.
Such is not the case.”
He knew that he was not the body, nor the mind or personality that accompanied it.

“It is impossible for ‘You’ to die because ‘You’ were never born.
Granted a body, that we tend to call ‘me, my and mine’, has arisen.
But what appears as ‘your’ body is not you,
and you can manage quite well without the thought that it is ‘you’.”
That body, as he wished it to be, was transmuted into smoke and ash, dispersed into the air of the country he loved, and scattered into the Mekong River to feed the fish and merge back into the ecology of things.

For those of you who felt a kinship with Jed from a distance – for those of you who took his classes and were in one-on-one dialogue with him, perhaps for years – for those of you who he helped awaken from the dream, and those of you he helped to take a step along the path – for those of you who didn’t care about him as an individual, but who were moved or freed or supported by his teaching – for all of us who he touched – it is sad that he is gone. It may be shocking or disorienting. Whatever emotions come to you – deeply, or merely as a ripple on the surface – I hope you’ll allow those feelings to come over you full strength, and to move through you, and to change you, as grief always does. Jed never encouraged anyone to “spiritually bypass” their feelings.

Once you feel whatever there is to feel, however, I hope you can return to the bigger truth. What appeared to be Jed cannot die, because it was never born. Behind the apparent phenomena and ephemera that captivate our attention, is the unchanging infinite. Personal history rises to meet timeless awareness. To Jed, that background, beyond the drama, was the only thing that was real.

Jed was reluctant to speak about the moment in which he realized the Truth. When he did talk about it, however, he described a choice point. He said he had the option to leave the dream behind, to sublimate into the background in some way he didn’t really have words to describe. Or he could choose to “come back”, as it were, to continue to play the character of Jed, with an ego and a personality and a role to play in the human dream. He chose to come back for a while, walking with one foot in the infinite, one foot in the dream.

Of the handful of dead gurus Jed had real respect for, I’d place Nisargadatta at the top of the list. Jed’s understanding of death was very much in alignment with Nis, so here’s what Nis has to say on the matter:

“To the Self, the world is but a colorful show,
which it enjoys as long as it lasts and forgets when it is over.”

“The real you is timeless and beyond birth and death.
The body will survive as long as it is needed.
It is not important that it should live long.”

Jed will no longer be here to answer your emails or post on the forum or to share day-to-day existence with those of us who spent time with him in person. He is leaving a body of work behind, however, for those of us still here. You can get to know him through that work far more meaningfully than you would have through a conversation with his personality. That hasn’t changed.

I haven’t introduced myself, and I won’t really, except to say to call me Zara. I’ve been collaborating with Jed for the last two years, working with him on a new class that is not yet complete. He requested that I tend to his existing students in his absence. Tomorrow, I’ll post some logistical information for those of you currently in the middle of one of his classes, and with some thoughts about future classes, and the future of this forum.

In the meanwhile, we can be sad together that the person we knew as Jed is gone.

And we can remember together that he is not.

P.S. ‘Zara’ is quite talented at spinning the enlightenment tale, me thinks, just from reading the above. She (he?) says all the right things, the correct cliche expressions and is personable. I feel she (he?) will be a worthy scam master. I actually mean it: a scam master worthy of Kenneth’s memory. What a twist to the Jed tale. But she is not a medic, by the looks of it, and never educated herself about medication.

  1. OMG! F… me! 🙂 What GREAT entertainment this morning with a new pot of coffee, comes a new pot of this (I don’t know what to call it without profanity as part of the label, but I like it!) For once, in this context, I’ll parrot “Jed” and say FORWARD –> 🙂 Great stuff ! Thank you all!

    1. Well, Joe.. buy yourself a twenty kilo bag of coffee beans, because by the looks of it.. this tale is the gift that keeps giving. You have yeeaars of entertainment ahead of you.

I wonder if I should let Peter Sweeney (the real Jed) know about it all? Hmm.. And shall I investigate ‘Zara’s ‘ credentials? Another hmm..

    1. Looks like you are my only fan haha!! Never mind. I will carry on ranting about stuff as and when my enlightened perspective gets flammoxed by what I observe around.

I am surprised Kenneth devoted a passage to my ‘stalking’ activities, but then remembering his face back in Sihanoukville when he realised I knew his name.. was priceless. Made an impression on his mind for sure, and well remembered to his death.

Rest in peace, the lovable rogue.

Without my investigation.. who would have known the real name behind the Invisible Guru? People just sweep own failings under the carpet.

There are truly only two or three people I know in this world who are fully realised and are an equal.

There must be more, but the real ones are not in the world.

        1. @ queenofkudzu

          “What does “fully realized” mean?”

          A hard question.

Overall, it means that the most fundamental questions of life are answered and ceased being a mystery. Such as the meaning of life, what is death, who am I, all those questions that confuse people on the spiritual circuit. One has understood (realised) those so called life’s greatest mysteries and has no need to look for anything anymore.

Therefore, they often say there are no questions. Of course questions do exist, but not of the existential nature.

  2. Regarding supporters and detractors, carefully worded cautions, polite suggestions, indirect objectors, would be friendly appearing advisors, and the like. I myself, have had my fill of these in my own life these past few days and weeks, if not all my life.

I’ve been counseling myself with words such as I shared with my wife the other night about what was troubling me: “I think I’ve said and done enough. Time to practice being silent, or not talking much in groups, or not at all.” Sigh…

    1. @bjosephkotrich

It is a perfectly reasoned approach. The name is the army, you can never pursuade the stale minds, and this is not why I am here. I like to rant. I earned my right to rant about how shitty this world is at times, because everybody is hell bent at pretending that all is hunky-dory. I rant, Joe. You can rant too, you also have earned this via life experience.

I think reddit as a platform sucks.

i have no wife. I have to councel myself, and all the burdens are mine only. It can be hard, but I prefer my independence from the fickle human minds.

    2. In fact.. I was perfectly willing to let this site die.

I knew who Kenneth was, through personal interaction, his life story, talking to his kin and people who used to know him back in Canada..

I knew who Peter was, through research, documents, photos, papers, others accounts…

I knew what enlightenment is (not).. I experienced the transformation few ever arrive at.. without any religiousity or spiritual beliefs.

I lost interest towards spirituality and related bs disciplines.. I was ready to leave it all behind.

Then Kenneth died. As I said.. I feel the loss. As long as he was alive and well – I couldn’t care less. But he wasn’t, and I had no way of knowing, no way of dragging him to the hospital much earlier.. That sucks. He could have been alive yet.
